Career Summary

Kenneth McLarty

“Andy”

My name is Andrew (Andy) McLarty. In the crew lists I tended to be included as Kenneth McLarty just because this is my first name on all legal documents. No one has ever called me that, not even my mum but it has led to a lifetime of confusion.

Anyway I joined B&C as an engineer cadet/apprentice in September 1968 going immediately to Stow College in Glasgow to work on a Higher National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.

I left the company in January 1977 after getting my Second’s Ticket and sailing as Junior Second Engineer on Clan MacGillivray. I had been offered a Second Engineer’s position with the newly formed Dubai Maritime Transport Company and went there with a few other B&C guys.
