Died

25 January 2021

Aged 91

I am very sorry to tell you that Dennis passed away in hospital on 25 January 2021

He had had a few health problems over the last few months but nothing too serious until the wretched coronavirus got him.

He spent some time in hospital in December - in fact, he was there over Christmas - but then seemed more or less OK. The NHS had arranged for carers to come in when he came home from hospital to help him with anything he needed, i.e., getting dressed, going to bed, taking blood pressure and temperature - all well meant but really not necessary as he was almost back to normal. I dispensed with them after a couple of weeks. Anyway, we reckoned maybe one of them was carrying the virus or he picked it up in hospital but we shall never know.

He would have been 92 next month so he did really well. Of course, I miss him like crazy - we were together for more than 50 years! (with interruptions, of course, when he went to sea).

Please let any of his former shipmates know - he was with Clan Line before Union-Castle (where we met and sailed together on both Pendennis (my favourite) and Windsor.)
