Capt Bernard Copp


Captain Copp was master of the "Mexican" when in thick fog north bound and 80 miles from Cape Town she was involved in a collision with the "Winkfield", owned by Lawther, Lata & Co. and on her maiden voyage.   

The "Winkfield" suffered only minor damage and stood by the "Mexican" taking on board all crew and passengers and the mail, the "Mexican" stayed afloat for twelve hours.   

At the subsequent inquiry both masters were exonerated of all blame
