Cadet and Deck Officer with British & Commonwealth 1976 to 1982.

Trained at College of Nautical Studies, Warsash, Southampton.

Served on Clan Line general cargo to E Africa, S Africa and India; the Clan R reefers and King Line bulk carriers.

Following redundancy in 1983, I bought a camera with my redundancy pay, found that I had some aptitude at it, and taught myself to a standard where I was making a living and eventually enjoyed several years as a photographer working for the Norfolk Archaeological Unit back in my home town of Norwich.

Made redundant

Kirk Laws-Chapman

In 1991, an opportunity came up at the then Norwich School of Art, working as a technician running the teaching facilities, making slides for teaching and teaching students how to photograph their work. I've stayed at the college since then and after various twists and turns now find myself as the Resources Manager, responsible for the student facing resources of what is now the Norwich University College of the Arts, an independent Higher Education Institution.

I still have fond memories of my early working life and many memories of characters at Warsash and on board.

Always happy to hear from anyone who remembers me.

Now living in Norwich UK
