I was 2nd Officer on Southampton Castle at the time the Good Hope Castle went on fire between Ascension and St Helena. We were 2nd ship on the scene but by that time all crew had been taken off by a passing tanker. She was a sorry site.

I was also 2nd Officer on Clan Robertson when the Zulu crew walked off in Gothenburg. We sailed without crew for Antwerp but were “blacked” before arrival there. Crew rejoined in Antwerp.
