Career Summary

Sidney J Woods

The son of Capt. S.R.J.Woods. I have attached a pic of his medals.

I went to HMS Worcester from 1955-57. I did a short summer coasting trip as a supernumerary on the Clan Macrae in 1956 and the same on the Clan Macintyre in 1957.

I joined Clan Line, Clan Macfadyen in Birkenhead on Feb. 4, 1958. Trip to India and Ceylon. Paid off Aug. 25,1958. Joined the Clan Chisholm on Sep. 17 1958 for a trip to Dakar, Ascension, St. Helena, Capetown. Port Elizabeth, East London, Durban, Lourenco Marques and Beira. Two more trips to India and Ceylon. On Oct 8 1959 was transferred to the Clan Davidson in Colombo as one of her Cadets was in Hospital. We went to Calcutta and Chittagong. On the voyage home I became very sick and on arrival in London was assessed by the Drs. And sent home to Glasgow for further tests. In May of 1960 it was determined that I was not fit to return to my seagoing career.

I went to live in Tavistock and trained as an accountant. After 6 years I moved to London for a year before emigrating to Canada. Have had a very successful career in Canada working in industry, had my own accounting practice for 10 years and ran a successful retail operation with my wife! Have now been retired for 20 years!!

A couple of items. On Dad's profile page his name is Sidney with an I not a y. The obit does not mention me. Probably for two reasons, 1, I had moved to Canada the year before and 2, my evil stepmother hated the fact that I existed!
