Obituary - 2024

Shirley A Lomax

Later King

Email received from Mike Morley 23 Sep 2024

I have received the sad news from Shirley’s daughter-in-law that Shirley died yesterday afternoon.

Following a fall when she broke her ankle, Shirley had been admitted to hospital some weeks ago and had not returned home.

She joined Edinburgh Castle for her first voyage as Purserette in 1960 and served on many of our vessels on both the Mail and Intermediate services until marriage to John in 1967.

Together with John, who predeceasded her, they were constant supporters of the Purser’s Association and in our early years Shirley served as our secretary.

Our condolences to twin sons Andrew and David and their families.
