The attached file relates my research into the voyages of my grandfather, Ernest Brooke, born 1878 and my father, Ernie [Ernest] Brooke born 1911.
Both were members of the crews of Union-Castle ships during W.W.2.
Ernest's ships being The Dunnottar Castle, The Athlone Castle and finally The Rowallan Castle [2].
Ernie was on The Athlone Castle throughout the war so Father and son were crewed together for some time.
Ernie joined The Stirling Castle on 26/07/1947 as an Assistant Barman and remained with her until joining The Edinburgh Castle for her maiden voyage 25/11/1948. He rose to Chief Barman and stayed with her until 1960. He finally retired from Union-Castle and the sea in 1965.
Can I ask that they both be entered onto The Shipmates Register.
If you consider the file would be of interest to other users of the site I am happy for it to be used, perhaps you would let me know.
I also have a spreadsheet of the voyages of The Athlone Castle during W.W.2 showing dates, ports, repair times etc. should that be of interest.
I am quite happy for people to contact me by E Mail with questions or corrections!
Regards
Alan Brooke
