I went ashore in Cape Town in 1971 to do a 3 month holiday relief at The Mount Nelson Hotel (Otherwise known as ‘Nellie’).
Seven years later I finished the holiday relief as Deputy General manager to return to Scotland to start my own business.
I had gone ashore with a box of uniforms in 1971 and left Cape Town in 1978 with 2½ containers of personal effects, a wife and two children. Some holiday relief !
The picture is of myself as Hotel Manager on Hebridean Princess. Another holiday relief job, this time relieving Andrew Quarrie who was in charge at the time.
Now living in Campbeltown, Argyll.
