Henry Philip Basden-Smith Lieutenant RD. RNR. (17/07/1905) & served during WW1 as a Lieutenant Commander/Commander Royal Naval Reserve and was Mentioned in Dispatches and created a DSO (LG. 07/08/1915) In recognition of services in the patrol cruisers since the outbreak of war. Finished the war as Commander, Acting Captain ret'd; (11/11/1918).
The Victory Medal was missing from the group until December 2006 when through the assistance of a fellow collector the medal was purchased in a UK auction, thus completing the group.
Pre War Henry was an officer serving with the Union-Castle Shipping Line.
