Launched - 15 November 1890
On Saturday there was launched from the yard of Messrs John B lumer & Co, the steel screw steamer Amara.
The vessel was built to the order of The Persian Steamship Company and is of the spar-deck type, with web frames and is constructed to the highest class at Lloyd’s.
The vessel’s length is 290ft; beam 40ft; depth 25ft 5in and has water ballast under engines, after hold and both peaks.
The deck erections consist of hood and teak house aft, bridge and top gallant forecastle,
The house aft is to be handsomely fitted out for Captain and passengers.
Officers and engineers have spacious accommodation under the bridge and the crew are berthed under the top gallant forecastle.
The vessel, when completed, will be fitted ouy with all the latest improvements.
The christening ceremony was graciously performed by Mrs Georgii of Stockholm.
The vessel afterwards proceeded over to the works of the North-Eastern Marine Engineering Company to fit her engines.
